Nebraska’s Department of Health and Human Services recently released the newest statistical report of abortions in Nebraska. While we remember each number represents an innocent life lost to abortion, this latest report also offers hope for the pro-life community.

According to the Nebraska 2016 Statistical Report of Abortions, abortions dropped to 1,907, a decrease of 4.8% when compared to the 2015 total of 2,004. The report also showed a ratio of 70.4 abortions per 1,000 live births and an average of 159 per month. Compare that with the numbers ten years ago: 2,927 abortions and a ratio of 108.9 abortions per 1,000 live births.

It is clear the culture of life is growing throughout our state. Thanks to your advocacy, prayers and support for pro-life policies that care for both the mother and baby, lives are being saved.

While the number of medically induced or surgical abortions continues to decline, the data does not include over-the-counter abortifacients such as Plan B – and one innocent life lost to abortion is too many.

Few reports are as sobering to review as the annual statistical report of abortions published by DHHS. But this heartbreaking data, reminds us of the importance of working tirelessly on this issue. We are committed to supporting life in all its forms and will fight to defend the unborn until these statistics are no longer necessary.
