Nebraska State Senators are back at our state capitol for a special session focused on property tax relief. But now, gambling interests are trying to hijack the session and force casinos into every home by legalizing online sports gambling under the guise of “property tax relief.”
Multiple online sports gambling bills have been introduced and were just scheduled for committee hearings tomorrow. Senators need to hear from you.
Gambling is the most regressive, unreliable, and harmful form of state revenue because it exploits the poor and financially desperate, increases social costs, worsens state budgets, deceives the public, and hurts families.
With online sports gambling, people can gamble directly from their bank accounts without ever leaving their homes or having any human interaction. And the results for children have been devastating.
Sports gambling severely harms children and will radically change the way that children consume sports. Research shows that in states with online sports gambling:
-
- The high frequency of sports gambling advertising has normalized gambling for kids.
- Calls to gambling addiction help lines have more than doubled.
- Bankruptcies have risen 28%.
- Threats to the integrity of competition and harassment of athletes have increased dramatically, including death threats.
Nebraskans deserve real solutions, not proposals to expand gambling on the backs of our student-athletes and at the expense of our children.
You can help make a difference by contacting senators on the committee directly and submitting comments for the official hearing record!

Next, submit online comments for the committee hearing record opposing LR 3CA, which would amend Nebraska’s Constitution to authorize online sports gambling. Comments must be submitted before 8:00 AM (CT) on Wednesday, July 31.
