Imagine a state where God is honored, life is cherished, marriages and families thrive, and religious liberty is protected. Prayer is the foundation to ensure that vision in Nebraska.

Every year, on the first Thursday in May, we observe National Day of Prayer (NDP) with a prayer service inside the Nebraska State Capitol. At noon on May 2, 2024, Nebraskans from across the state will gather in the State Capitol to lift up families, the church, businesses, education, the military, government, and the media in prayer.

Please join Nebraska Family Alliance for the Nebraska Observance of National Day of Prayer with Governor Jim Pillen, Senator Sponsor Joni Albrecht, and community prayer leaders from 12:00-1:00 PM on Thursday, May 2, 2024.

Parking is available on streets surrounding the Capitol and the east side of Trinity Lutheran Church’s parking lot (724 S 12th St, Lincoln, NE 68508). The event will be live streamed on our Facebook page for those unable to attend in person.

NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER NEBRASKA OBSERVANCE

In a proclamation declaring Thursday, May 2, 2024, a day of prayer in Nebraska, Governor Jim Pillen wrote, “It is fitting and proper to give thanks to God by observing a day of prayer in Nebraska when all may acknowledge our blessings and express gratitude for them, while recognizing the need for strengthening religious and moral values in our state and nation.”

Since 1988, Congress has set aside the first Thursday of May as a National Day of Prayer. National Day of Prayer is an opportunity for the people of God to unite in prayer for forgiveness, restoration, and guidance.

This year’s theme—life up the word, light up the world—is inspired by 2 Samuel 22:29-31. Visit our resource page to learn more about National Day of Prayer, download prayer guides, and find other local observances!

“For You are my lamp, O Lord; The Lord shall enlighten my darkness. For by You I can run against a troop; By my God I can leap over a wall. As for God, His way is perfect; The word of the Lord is proven; He is a shield to all who trust in Him.” 2 Samuel 22:29-31
