Today, in a 5-4 decision, the Supreme Court ruled to strike down a pro-life law requiring abortion clinics to abide by common-sense health and safety regulations.

Instead of protecting mothers and their babies, the Court’s decision allows abortion clinics to skirt around health and safety rules designed to protect women.

The case, June Medical Services v. Russo, centered on a law from Louisiana that was introduced by a Democrat state senator and required doctors who perform abortions to have hospital admitting privileges within 30 miles of the abortion clinic.

Today’s decision matters because the the Supreme Court missed a key opportunity to correct their flawed abortion jurisprudence. Today’s ruling:

  • Protects abortion clinics instead of the health and safety of women
  • Perpetuates an ill-founded abortion jurisprudence that ignores significant advances in science and technology since Roe v. Wade was decided in 1973
  • And weakens the public’s confidence in an impartial justice system and the rule of law

Where Do We Go From Here?

The simple fact remains that abortion harms women and ends the life of an innocent human being. To be pro-life is to be pro-science and pro-woman. That’s why NFA joined 25 family policy organizations from across the country in filing an amicus brief to the Supreme Court.

While our team is saddened by today’s decision, our hope does not rely on any judge on any court.

States continue to pass pro-life laws because millions of Americas across the country support women, acknowledge science, and value human life.

We are dedicated to protecting human life from conception to natural death because we recognize every human life is a precious gift created in the image of God.

With your support, NFA will continue to defend life by influencing policy at the state and local level, mobilizing prayer for our state and nation, and working to change hearts and minds by empowering people with information and resources on the truth about abortion and unborn human life.

Creating a culture of life in Nebraska is critical to protecting the most vulnerable in our society and is central to the mission of Nebraska Family Alliance.

We will never quit working to impact law and culture to protect the most vulnerable in our state.
