What Would A Casino in Carter Lake Mean for Omaha?

[spp-player]

In December, 2017, the National Indian Gaming Commission in Washington D.C. ruled that the Ponca Tribe of Nebraska could move forward with plans to construct a major casino in Carter Lake, Iowa, on Nebraska’s side of the Missouri River and within walking distance of the Open Door Mission.

This controversial decision sparked legal challenges now joined by the state of Nebraska. Last week, the office of Attorney General Doug Peterson announced that Nebraska would be joining a Federal lawsuit with the state of Iowa to block the construction of a casino in Carter Lake, Iowa.

While this matter heads to the courts, it’s important for the people of Nebraska, particularly citizens of Omaha, to understand why this decision is so important and what a casino at Omaha’s front door in Carter Lake would mean for the city of Omaha.

Learn more about this issue and hear what a casino in Carter Lake would mean for Omaha on this week’s Capitol Connection Podcast.
