Marriage Matters. Take Action to Preserve and Honor Marriage

Two constitutional amendments have been introduced in the Nebraska Legislature to repeal and redefine Nebraska’s marriage laws. These measures would erase Nebraska’s longstanding definition of marriage as between one man and one woman.

LR 5CA repeals Nebraska’s constitutional provision defining marriage as the union of one man and one woman, and LR 6CA forces the state to recognize a new definition of marriage in the State Constitution that disregards gender.

Nebraska voters overwhelmingly approved the current definition of marriage through a ballot initiative. These radical proposals undermine the truth about marriage and contradict the will of the people. 

TAKE ACTION

Legislators need to hear that Nebraskans value marriage and the family structure it supports. The hearings for LR 5CA and LR 6CA are this Friday in the Judiciary Committee. Submit a comment opposing these bills before 8:00 AM on Friday, January 31st, to be included in the official hearing record.

  • STEP 3: Click “I Understand” in the Written Submission pop-up window.

  • The people of Nebraska already decided on this issue. Attempting to overturn the will of the voters undermines the democratic process and disregards Nebraska values.

At a time when marriage is under attack in culture and government, we have an opportunity to celebrate marriage and lifelong commitment. That’s why Nebraska Family Alliance established the Nebraska Marriage Hall of Fame, honoring the institution of marriage and the men and women who have faithfully committed to each other.

Nominations for the Nebraska Marriage Hall of Fame are now open until February 28th.

Nominate a couple who has celebrated 60 years or more of marriage for induction into the Nebraska Marriage Hall of Fame, and they could win the title of Nebraska’s Longest-Married Couple.

A state is only as strong as its families, and in order for a society to thrive, we need God-honoring marriages. Healthy marriages produce secure families, provide a loving, stable environment to raise productive children, and influence the offspring and families that come from that lifelong union.
