A bill seeking to allow telemedicine abortion in Nebraska is scheduled for a committee hearing this Friday, March 12th, in the Nebraska Legislature’s Judiciary Committee.

LB 276 eliminates the requirement that a physician be present when an abortion is performed, meaning Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers would be authorized to send abortion pills through the mail.

This legislation would substantially expand abortion in Nebraska, endanger the health and safety of women, and encourage women to have “self-managed” chemical abortions by themselves in their homes and dorm rooms.

The lives of preborn children and the health and safety of women are more important than the abortion industry’s financial gain.

Help oppose this proposal to expand abortion by sending an opposition letter to the Judiciary Committee.

You can submit a letter to the Judiciary Committee in opposition to LB 276 by sending an email.

This is a simple, yet effective way for senators on the Committee to hear concerns from Nebraska citizens and keep the bill from advancing.

Please send an email to the Judiciary Committee Clerk at judpl@leg.ne.gov with a short letter in opposition to LB 276 no later than 12 PM on Thursday, March 11th.

Your letter must identify the bill number (LB 276), include your name and address, state that you are writing in opposition to the bill, and request that the letter be “included as part of the public hearing record.”

Below is a sample letter with talking points for you to choose from. Please personalize your letter, pick two or three bullet points, and send your letter to judpl@leg.ne.gov.

Help us be a voice for the voiceless and oppose LB 276.

SAMPLE LETTER AND TALKING POINTS

Chairman Lathrop and Members of the Judiciary Committee,
My name is [FULL NAME], and I live at [ADDRESS]. I am writing in opposition to LB 276 and request that this letter be included as part of the public hearing record.
      • LB 276 would expand abortion in Nebraska by removing the requirement that a physician be present when an abortion is performed. This will allow the abortion pill to be sent through the mail, circumventing safety regulations and endangering the health and safety of women in the process.
      • Reports indicate the chemical abortion pill is four times more dangerous than a surgical abortion. Women and their preborn children deserve better and shouldn’t be abandoned in their homes with a mail-delivered, do-it-yourself abortion pill.
      • LB 276 would substantially expand abortion in Nebraska, endanger the health and safety of women, and encourage women to have “self-managed” chemical abortions by themselves in their homes and dorm rooms.
      • The lives of preborn children and the health and safety of women are more important than the abortion industry’s financial gain.
      • Abortion harms women and ends the life of an innocent human being. We should work to reduce, rather than expand, abortion.
      • Please protect the lives of preborn children and the health and safety of women in Nebraska by opposing this legislation.
I urge you not to advance LB 276. Thank you for your time and for considering my request.
