PRAYER UPDATE

2 Chronicles 7:14 says, “If my people, who are called by My name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”

Held annually on the first Thursday of May, National Day of Prayer is an opportunity to unite in prayer to see the Lord’s wisdom, strength, protection, peace, and renewing power manifest as we call on citizens to humbly join together in praying for our nation.

NFA invites you to join us at noon on Thursday, May 5th, in the Nebraska State Capitol Rotunda for a National Day of Prayer event led by faith, community, and government leaders.

We also invite you to use and share this new prayer guide to help people of faith pray into seven key centers of influence in our nation: families, businesses, media, government, military, education, and the church.

POLICY UPDATE

After 60 working days over the span of four months, hundreds of committee hearings, and intense floor debate on a wide range of pressing issues, the Nebraska Legislature officially adjourned for the year on Wednesday.

This year’s legislative session was dominated by filibusters. Most notably, LB 933, a major pro-life bill that would have protected every unborn baby from abortion the moment Roe v. Wade is overturned, failed by just two votes. See how senators voted here.

Other proposals to create more choice and freedom in education (LB 364) also failed to overcome a filibuster, and good bills to protect religious freedom (LB 774) and prohibit sex-ed health standards (LB 768) never got out of committee.

While there were notable setbacks and missed opportunities, there were also important victories.

Most notably, every bill opposed by NFA was successfully defeated this session. This included proposals seeking to loosen abortion restrictions (LB 716), advance gender identity policies (LB 745 & LB 1136), and expand gambling (LB 1268).

Three NFA-supported bills passed into law, including bills to help protect victims of human trafficking (LB1246 & LB 204) and limit the number of casinos that can be constructed in Nebraska (LB 876).

This year’s session once again reminds us of the importance of engaging with our state and local government.

The laws that are and are not passed by our representatives impact the lives of real people. Every policy endorses and enforces a belief system, and we get to help decide whose it will be.

NFA’s voter guide will help you identify where candidates stand on key issues like abortion and the sanctity of life, religious freedom, education, and family values.

Visit NebraskaVoterGuide.com to view your nonpartisan, personalized voter guide, share it with your friends, family, and church, and vote your values in the upcoming election.

NFA is honored to represent you and your family and will continue to serve as an effective voice for faith, family, and freedom at our State Capitol and in the public square.
