Action Alert: Support School Choice in Nebraska

Parents should have more control over their child’s education than the government.

Different children have different educational needs, and many families across the state want the choice to send their kids to a school that aligns with their values.

The health education standards that were proposed by the Nebraska Department of Education last year—which sought to teach young school children inappropriate information and ideas about sex, abortion, sexual orientation, and gender identity—demonstrate why educational freedom is so important and badly needed in Nebraska.

State senators are in the opening days of the 2022 Legislative Session and already have an opportunity to bring greater choice and freedom to education in Nebraska by supporting LB 364, which will soon be debated by the full legislature.

LB 364, the Opportunity Scholarships Act, would create a tax credit for donations to non-profit scholarship granting organizations, which will increase scholarship opportunities for low-income families to attend the private school of their choice.

Parents have the right to choose a school for their children that aligns with their own convictions and values, and LB 364 gives more parents the freedom to choose a faith-based education if they so desire.

Now is the time to support a parent’s right to decide where their child is best suited to receive a well-rounded education.
