The moment we have been praying for and working towards for 50 years may finally be here: Roe v. Wade is on the cusp of being overturned. Last December, the U.S. Supreme Court heard oral arguments in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization regarding Mississippi’s 15-week abortion ban, and a leaked draft of the opinion indicates the Court may be poised to overturn Roe.

Your faithful prayers and support have brought us to this historic moment. Since our inception in 1988, Nebraska Family Alliance (NFA) has helped pass impactful life-saving laws like our ban on partial-birth abortions (1997), the nation’s first 20-week pain-capable law (2010), a telemedicine abortion ban (2011), and a dismemberment abortion ban (2020).

Last year, NFA filed an amicus brief, urging the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn Roe in the Dobbs case. I was honored to be in Washington D.C. the night before oral arguments to lead a pro-life prayer vigil on the steps of the Supreme Court. God heard our prayers. This is our moment. The opportunity to bring lasting change, save lives, and support thriving families will be in our hands like never before—and we must be ready.

When we see the end of Roe, it won’t be the end of the pro-life movement. In fact, this is only the beginning! In Nebraska, abortion will still be legal up to 20 weeks even when Roe is overturned. That’s why we’re focusing on five key pro-life strategies for Nebraska in a post-Roe America:

• • Law And Public Policy: Obtain legal protection for the lives of every unborn child from the moment of conception.
  • Care For Women And Children: Support pregnancy resource centers and adoption providers.
  • Elections: Equip and inform voters on who the pro-life candidates are in every election cycle.
  • Education: Educate the public on the science of early human development and the truth of what abortion really is, so that abortion is not only illegal but unthinkable.
  • Direct Action: Minister to abortion-minded women, help them choose life for their babies, and promote thriving families.

This is where the real work begins. The opposition will be fierce, motivated, and better funded than ever before. Earlier this month, our sister family policy organization in Wisconsin was attacked with explosive Molotov cocktails, and our own database provider just sent notice that they are ending our contract because of NFA’s unwavering pro-life stance. Planned Parenthood recently announced they have received a $275 million donation—$20 million of which is being sent to abortion facilities in Nebraska and Iowa.

But we will not be deterred. As Justice Clarence Thomas shared during a lecture at the Heritage Foundation, “You can be in the middle of a hurricane, or you can be in a calm day; north is still north. People can yell at you. North is still north. It doesn’t change fundamental things. Right is still right, even if you stand by yourself.”
