Legally redefining marriage to be a genderless relationship based upon the emotions of adults while hidden under the guise of “love wins” has set the stage for sexual orientation, gender identity, and comprehensive sex education laws to dominate our radar during the legislative session.

This has led to one remaining question: When “love wins,” who really loses?

Adoption and foster care agencies are in need of legal protection; student’s basic and fundamental privacy rights are at stake; business owners must choose between their life’s work and their faith. Tolerance has become a one way street trampling over religious freedom.

Rather than providing protection against actual discrimination, sexual orientation, gender identity, and comprehensive sex education laws seek to implement social change.

These laws are not acting as a shield against discrimination, but a sword striking down those with deeply held religious beliefs, and present a real threat to not only Christian schools and churches, but all citizens’ First Amendment rights.

If “love wins” it must not become a zero sum game in which religious liberty loses. As the only family policy council in the state, NFA remains dedicated to influencing policy to uphold the Biblical design for family while advancing freedom and life for the Glory of Christ and the good of people.

We will continue to be a prominent and unwavering voice and presence in our state capitol, fervently striving to stand for justice while strengthening families across Nebraska.
