It’s time to save girls’ sports in Nebraska.

In 2020, Idaho became the first state to ensure that only biological girls are permitted to compete in girls’ sports. Since then, 17 additional states have passed laws to protect female athletes in their states.

LB 575 would protect women’s and girls’ athletic opportunities in Nebraska by ensuring that only biological females can compete in female sports contests. The bill also ensures that access to school bathrooms and locker rooms are based on biological sex.

Our girls deserve better than letting males compete in female-only competitions, and no female student should be forced to share private spaces such as bathrooms, locker rooms, or showers with men.

Female sports should be for female athletes. LB 575 takes a commonsense approach to protecting girls’ sports and safeguarding the privacy and safety of all students.

The voice of concerned citizens can make a difference—and on an issue as fundamental as fair sports, it’s critical that those voices are heard.

LB 575 is scheduled for a committee hearing in the Education Committee on Monday. Please submit a written comment online in support of LB 575 by Friday at Noon.

Chairman Murman and members of the Education Committee,

I am writing to express my support for LB 575.

    • Female athletes deserve fair competition—and that means the chance to maintain women’s divisions distinct from co-ed or men’s categories.
    • LB 575 is based on the idea that sports should happen on a level playing field. Letting biological boys play in girls’ sports is decidedly unfair.
    • Biological males have greater bone density, muscle mass, and cardiovascular capacity than girls. Allowing biological males to compete in girls’ sports enables them to take away elite opportunities meant specifically for biological girls.
    • Our girls deserve better than letting males compete in female-only competitions, and no female student should be forced to share private spaces such as bathrooms and locker rooms with men.
    • LB 575 takes a commonsense approach to protecting girls’ sports and safeguarding the privacy and safety of all students.

I urge the Committee to advance LB 575. Thank you for your time and consideration.
