Three critical pro-life bills are scheduled for committee hearings in the Nebraska Legislature on Thursday, and we need your help to advance this important legislation! These bills promote a culture of life by strengthening informed consent, protecting women from coercion, treating fetal remains with dignity, and expanding life-saving options.
LB 669: Informed Consent & Screening for Coercion and Trafficking
LB 669, introduced by Senator Storer, strengthens Nebraska’s informed consent laws to protect women and offer assistance and resources.
-
- Requires abortion providers to screen for coercion, abuse, and human trafficking before performing an abortion.
- Ensures women are informed of available resources, given the contact information for domestic violence and human trafficking hotlines, and provided an opportunity to make a confidential phone call.
- Allows women to sue abortion providers who fail to obtain proper informed consent, holding the abortion industry accountable.
LB 632: Humane Disposition of Fetal Remains
LB 632, introduced by Senator Hansen, ensures that the remains of unborn children are treated with dignity.
-
- Requires facilities that perform abortions to individually bury or cremate the remains of an unborn child.
- Prohibits abortion providers from treating the bodies of unborn children as medical waste that can be discarded in the trash or sewer.
- Every human life is precious and should be treated with dignity. We must continue to advocate for and uphold policies that protect life at every stage.
LB 214: Safe Haven Baby Boxes
LB 214, introduced by Senator Holdcroft, saves lives by authorizing the installation of Safe Haven Baby Boxes to provide more options for parents in crisis to safely surrender a newborn anonymously.
-
- Safe Haven Baby Boxes will be installed at fire stations and hospitals that are staffed 24/7, allowing for the secure surrender of an infant ninety days old or younger.
- These boxes must be padded, temperature-controlled, and equipped with motion sensors and dual-alarm systems to ensure immediate response and care for the baby.
- Offers parents who may be facing a crisis an accessible and life-affirming alternative to abandonment, where they can be adopted into loving homes.
