Today Governor Pete Ricketts revealed Nebraska’s new Choose Life License Plate. The plate will be available for purchase January 2018.

About the new plate and design, Karen Bowling, Executive Director of Nebraska Family Alliance stated,

“Choose Life License Plates provide an important opportunity for the citizens of Nebraska to celebrate the culture of life. This design reflects a growing support for the protection of Nebraska’s greatest resource, our children.”

Nebraska Choose Life License Plate

Nebraska Family Alliance is proud to have supported this bill by testifying at the committee hearing and meeting with senators. It faced fierce opposition from abortion advocates, so we are grateful Nebraska’s senators rallied to overcome not one, but six filibusters.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much will the Choose Life License Plate cost?

In addition to all other taxes and fees, a plate with an auto-generated alpha-numeric sequence is only $5.00. A personalized plate is $40.00 plus taxes and fees.

Where do the proceeds go?

Extra funds from the Choose Life License Plates go to the Temporary Assistance for Need Families (TANF) Fund. If an alphanumeric plate is ordered, the full $5 is sent TANF. If a personalized plate is ordered, $30.00 goes to TANF and the other $10 goes to the Motor Vehicle Cash Fund.

Where can I order a Choose Life plate?

You will be able to order your plate online at https://dmv.nebraska.gov/dvr/license-plates. The website states applications will be available in mid-December.

Can I order a plate before my registration needs to be renewed?

Yes! However, if you order a specialty plate before your normal renewal period, you will have to pay the additional fee again at the time of your annual renewal.

Why was this design chosen?

This design was chosen from a number of different plates because it most clearly represented what “Choose Life” means in our state. We believe this image of a mother and child walking into a beautiful Nebraska sunset communicates a message of hope for the future.
