From Pakistan to America, Sylvana’s Story

This week on NFA’s Daily Radio Program, Karen Bowling sat down with Sylvana Airan to discuss what it was like to grow up in a Muslim country and why she wanted to become an American citizen.

Karen Bowling: I am so excited to have my friend Sylvana Airan in studio today. She came to the United States as a 22 year old immigrant from Pakistan. She was a Christian woman living in a predominantly Muslim country and because of religious persecution found herself in America.

Sylvana, welcome to the program today!

Sylvana Airan: Thank you.

Karen Bowling: Tell our listeners what it means to you to be an American citizen.

Sylvana Airan: Karen, I am an American by choice and I am so proud to be an American.

As a child in Pakistan I said I was going to go where the American missionaries came from, but I did not know how that was going to come about.

The freedom we have here in America to worship anywhere and anyone, the security we have, our constitution here, our judicial system, the foundation of Christian principles – I cherish this and I am very thankful to those who gave up their lives so that we may have a good life.  

It is an honor to have the opportunity and right to vote during elections. We are treated with equality and are not judged by religion or ethnicity.

God answered my prayer and brought me to the United States of America, where we are free!
