A Win for Jack is a Win for Your Freedom – Kellie Fiedorek Explains

Karen Bowling and Kellie Fiedorek discuss how Jack Phillips' Case is important for All Americans' Freedom.

This week on NFA’s Daily Radio Program, Karen Bowling sat down with Kellie Fiedorek, Legal Counsel with Alliance Defending Freedom to discuss the Supreme Court’s recent decision to take Jack Phillips’ case.

Karen Bowling: On Monday, June 26th the U.S. Supreme Court agreed to hear the Jack Phillips Masterpiece Cake Shop Case. I am honored to have Kellie Fiedorek as my call-in guest today. She is legal counsel with Alliance Defending Freedom. Jack Phillips is one of their conscience clients. Welcome Kellie!

Kellie Fiedorek: Thanks Karen for having me on.

Karen: It’s always good to have a conversation with you. Tell our listeners, why is Jack Phillips case so important? There’s excitement around the Supreme Court hearing this case.

Kellie: Absolutely. We are thrilled that the Supreme Court took this case because it’s not just Jack’s freedom that is at stake but all Americans’ freedom. Ultimately this case is about whether the government can coerce a creative professional to promote viewpoints that conflict with his or her conscience.

So we are just thrilled that the Court is going to take this case and hopefully they will do the right thing and protect the freedom of all Americans to live consistent with their deeply held convictions.

Karen: Kellie, we believe that as Americans, including family business owners, we should be able to live and do business according to our faith, and that’s what this case is about.  

Kellie: That’s right, and the reason why the lower court’s ruling was such a bad decision and needs to be reversed, is because it really imperils every single person’s freedom by failing to respect a diversity of viewpoints.

Regardless of whether people’s viewpoints are in the majority or the minority no one should be forced to create or write a message with which they disagree.  We need to find space for everyone to live consistent with their beliefs.
