Families are the building blocks of society, and the strongest marriages are built over decades of love, faithfulness, sacrifice, and devotion. February is National Marriage Month, and we are celebrating the men and women who have faithfully committed to each other.

Nebraska Family Alliance established the Nebraska Marriage Hall of Fame in 2021 to honor the institution of marriage. Since then, during the month of February, we’ve recognized the lifelong union of more than 50 couples living in Nebraska who have been married 60 to 78 years.

Over the years, we’ve received inquiries from friends and family members wanting to celebrate big milestones with a nomination, and we’re excited to announce that nominations to the Nebraska Marriage Hall of Fame will now be open year-round to celebrate these remarkable marriages whenever a special anniversary approaches.

If you know a Nebraska couple who has been married 60 years or more with an upcoming wedding anniversary, we want to know their story! Take a moment to nominate them to the Nebraska Marriage Hall of Fame through our online form. Inductees will receive a keepsake certificate and letter celebrating their legacy.

A state is only as strong as its families, and in order for a society to thrive, we need God-honoring marriages. Healthy marriages produce secure families, provide a loving, stable environment for children, and influence the offspring and generations that follow.

The Nebraska Marriage Hall of Fame honors Nebraska’s longest-married couples, celebrates and encourages lifelong commitment, reiterates cultural support for the institution of marriage, and serves as a reminder that strong marriages benefit everyone.

Submit your nominations for Nebraska couples married for 60 years or more, and help us celebrate and strengthen marriage in Nebraska.

Marriage Matters

Nebraska Family Alliance joined Focus on the Family, Family Research Council, and over 40 state and national organizations to launch the Greater Than advocacy campaign—an effort to advance Biblical marriage and the well-being of children through education, public policy, and judicial action.

The 2015 Supreme Court Obergefell v. Hodges decision disregarded the will of voters nationwide and redefined marriage and parenthood at the expense of our children. Every child deserves a mother and a father, protection, and the opportunity to thrive. Mothers and fathers are essential, and no adult desire or ideology can change that biological reality.

“In 2000, Nebraska Family Alliance led a successful statewide ballot initiative to define marriage as one man and one woman in the Nebraska Constitution, which overwhelmingly passed by 70% and still stands today,” said NFA Communications Director Marilyn Newland. “The battle for marriage is not over, and we are committed to protecting the rights of children and strengthening Godly marriages as the cornerstone of strong families and thriving communities.”

Marriage is a sacred institution that exists not merely to recognize adult relationships, but to unite a husband and wife and provide children with the love, stability, and guidance only a father and mother can give. When marriage is redefined or diminished, it is children who bear the greatest cost.

“When the needs of children are neglected, it’s not just the children who suffer. Families are hurt, and society itself is destabilized,” said Jim Daly, President of Focus on the Family. “We see the tragic evidence of this all around us. And that’s why we wholeheartedly embrace Greater Than’s conviction that real progress means putting children’s needs ahead of adult desires.”
