The Legislative Session is underway here in Nebraska. The Unicameral has welcomed 17 brand new state senators to the body, and soon these men and women will begin debating and voting on the toughest and most controversial issues that face our state.

But in the midst of the controversy, there is one thing we must never forget about our elected leaders: These influential people are also parents, spouses, friends and neighbors. They face the same daily pressures you and I do, yet their public role means their decisions affect thousands of lives.

The Importance of Prayer

Our leaders are the architects of our communities. They lay the foundation for the future of our children and grandchildren. With this weight of responsibility upon their shoulders, your prayers are the greatest gift you can give. When you lift our leaders up in prayer, you are helping to shape the future of our state and nation.

This means more than praying for them to vote a certain way. We should under-gird them with our prayers for the sake of our families and communities. Paul commanded Timothy, and through him all believers, to pray for our leaders:

“I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.” – 2 Timothy 2:1-2

Two Opportunities to Pray With Us

There are two upcoming opportunities for you to join us in praying for our elected leaders.

Capitol Prayer Walk

You can join the NFA team for the first Capitol Prayer Walk of 2017 this Saturday. Brief updates will be provided before praying at strategic locations inside the Capitol. We conclude our prayer time together overlooking the Legislative Chambers.

WHEN: January 21st, 2017

TIME: 10:00 – 11:30 a.m.

WHERE: West entrance of the Capitol

Adopt A leader in Prayer

Another unique prayer opportunity is Adopt a Leader in Prayer. Whether praying for people in authority has been part of your prayer life for many years, or if you are just beginning, we will send you a free packet with resources to help you pray, including a magnet of your State Senator.

Be a blessing to a senator and Adopt a Leader in Prayer!
