“Only One Dialogue Allowed” Regulating Talk Therapy with Matt Sharp

This week I discuss LB 167 & 168 proposed regulation of counseling speech with Alliance Defending Freedom’s Senior Legal Counsel, Matt Sharp. Professional guidelines of counselors and therapists already prohibit abusive and coercive therapies. However, these bills are misleadingly labeled “Conversion Therapy Bans” causing individuals to believe they were written to stop abusive and coercive therapy techniques. Matt Sharp clearly explains how these bills are written to censor speech – “Only One Dialogue Allowed.”

Speech that helps a person address unwanted attractions/behaviors or align with their biological gender will be banned, while speech that helps a person embrace same-sex attraction or gender transitioning (which includes hormone treatment, sex surgery, etc.) will be allowed.

Learn how these bills will impact not only counselors but also ministries, parents, and patients.

In recent developments, bill sponsor Senator Megan Hunt withdrew LB 168 – citing parents guilty for child abuse if they knowingly exposed their child to this type of speech.  Although, LB 167 is still alive.
