57 years ago, Marilyn lost her husband in a tragic hunting accident. Alone and shaken, she discovered she was pregnant. Eighteen weeks into her pregnancy she had a miscarriage – twin boys. Another heart-shattering loss. Her babies were buried in the same grave as her husband.

The hospital staff simply told her….. “life goes on.”

While the medical staff meant well, their words created a deeper wound. Marilyn heard, “The loss of your babies is not important.”

Then, NFA announced that the Commemorative Miscarriage Birth Certificate bill had passed. Miscarriages prior to 20 weeks gestation would now be recognized by the state.

She set out to apply for certificates in memory of Kevin and Kelvin.

One miracle after another happened for Marilyn. The mortuary located the twins 57-year old burial record in their basement providing documentation of her miscarriage. Beyond this miracle, as Department of Health & Human Services Vital Records processed her request they found still-birth certificates recorded 57-years ago that she had never obtained. All of this was sent to Marilyn.

After receiving her certificates in the mail, she held them close to her chest, twirling around with joy. Then the biggest miracle came – Marilyn felt closure and healing.

Marilyn is not alone. Over 3,700 individuals have visited NFA’s website explaining how to receive certificates acknowledging their loss.
