My heart rejoices in the Lord; in the Lord my horn is lifted high. My mouth boasts over my enemies, for I delight in your deliverance. There is no one holy like the Lord; there is no one besides you; there is no Rock like our God.

~ 1 Samuel 2: 1-2

During the special season of Advent you are probably familiar with the Scripture reading of Mary’s prayer, in which she offers praise and thanksgiving to God for choosing her to bear God’s Son, Jesus (Luke 1:46-55). Her ancestor Hannah had the same gratitude and expressed her thanksgiving to God in prayer (1 Samuel 2:1-2).

Two very special women gave birth to special babies; the prophet Samuel to Hannah who had been infertile, and Jesus Christ conceived by the Virgin Mary.

Hannah’s prayer was filled with amazement over God’s miraculous intervention in her life. God had heard her prayer. God had answered her request for a son.

During this Christmas season we should imitate Hannah’s example in prayer. God has blessed us and let us be reminded to express our gratitude for His work in our lives. Remember, people are watching us and our gratitude is a powerful testimony to others. What will capture people’s attention is not the size of answered prayers, but the fact that God still does answer prayer!

God will use the journey of your life to share the true meaning of Christmas to those around you. So let’s get started and find ways to tell others how God has answered your prayers.

Dear Lord, You have blessed me beyond my wildest imagination! My heart rejoices in You because _________ (You fill in the blank!)

Merry Christmas and Joyous New Year!
